Vogueimprint Exclusive: Italian Haute Couturier Ettore Bilotta and Multi-Award Winning Photographer Norman Jean Roy Unveil New Etihad Airways Uniforms

Etihad Airways today revealed its much anticipated new uniforms at a spectacular show in Abu Dhabi, paving the way for a new age of glamorous and sophisticated flying.

Created by Ettore Bilotta at his atelier in Milan, the new uniform exudes a classic elegance seldom seen in the aisles of modern airliners, and cleverly merges dramatic elements of old world haute couture from 1960s Paris and Rome, with the more contemporary fashions evident on the runways of London, New York, Milan and Tokyo.

The brief given to Bilotta by the airline was for a design which would represent timeless sophistication, glamour and elegance. The designer has succeeded in realising the airline’s aspiration to reimagine flying by creating clothing which captures the understated style and innovation of Etihad Airways.

Video and Photos: Richard Branson Turns Female Flight Attendant After Losing Bet To AirAsia Owner Tony Fernandes

British entrepreneur Richard Branson

The Virgin Group founder and British billionaire had his legs shaved, put on lipstick and squeezed into a red skirt to honor a bet by serving as a flight attendant Sunday on an AirAsia trip from Perth, Australia, to Malaysia. Mr Branson and Mr Fernandes had a bet on whose teams would finish first in the 2010 Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

Donning a uniform, he served passengers on an Air Asia charity flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur. The plan was that the loser had to dress as a female flight attendant and serve passengers on board the winner’s airline. But he earned a reprimand from AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes after he deliberately dumped a tray of orange juice on Fernandes’ lap.

Human Right Activist Malcolm X’s Grandson, Was Murdered Over A Bar Bill In Mexico

2013-05-11_15-12-02

A dispute over a bar bill is the supposed cause of the beating that killed 28years old Malcolm Shabazz (grandson of Malcolm X) on Thursday morning in Mexico City, according to the AP.

Shabazz, who lived a troubled life, was visiting his friend, recently deported activist Miguel Suarez, when “they and several other people had gone to a bar near the downtown plaza that is home to Mexico City’s mariachis.”

After being confronted with a $1,200 bar bill by the owner of the establishment, a fight ensued and Shabazz was taken behind the building and beaten. Suarez told the AP that he “found Shabazz injured outside the bar and took him to a hospital where he died on Thursday.”

Shabazz had recently been enrolled at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, and was writing a memoir about his life while traveling around the United States, speaking out against youth violence.

His family has released the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved El Hajj Malcolm El Shabazz. To all who knew him, he offered kindness, encouragement and hope for a better tomorrow. Although his bright light and boundless potential are gone from this life, we are grateful that he now rests in peace in the arms of his grandparents and the safety of God. We will miss him.”
